Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
The diversity of ministers is essential to the fruitful celebration of the Mass. All of the faithful are summoned to a “full, conscious, and active participation” that burns with faith, hope, and charity by reason of their Baptism. The church depends on Extraordinary Ministers of Communion to assist the priest and deacon in the distribution of Holy Communion. These are parishioners who, because of their love of the church and the Eucharist, their exemplary Christian living, and their willingness to offer service to the church and are recommended by the Pastor to the Bishop. After Diocesan Training the Bishop mandates them to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion in the parish and parish institutions. A training period is held in the parish before the parishioner is installed as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion.
